Tour Overview

Wales boasts more castles per square mile than almost anywhere else on earth, and our 3-day Castles of Wales tour takes you to the very finest. From imposing UNESCO World Heritage fortresses to hilltop strongholds overlooking dramatic mountain scenery, this tour reveals why Wales has been called "the land of castles".

Your journey begins at Caernarfon Castle in North Wales — arguably the most impressive castle in the British Isles. Built by Edward I in the late 13th century to subdue the Welsh, it is a masterpiece of medieval military architecture. Its eagle towers, striped stonework, and commanding position at the mouth of the River Seiont make it truly unforgettable. This is also where Prince Charles was invested as Prince of Wales in 1969.

Day 2 takes you south to Cardiff Castle, a fascinating multi-layered site that spans 2,000 years of history. Originally a Roman fort, it was later transformed into a Norman keep and eventually a lavish Victorian Gothic fantasy by the eccentric Marquess of Bute. The richly decorated interiors are unlike anything you've seen. Cardiff itself — Wales's vibrant capital — is well worth exploring too.

On Day 3, head back to the north to visit the stunning Conwy Castle, another of Edward I's "iron ring" fortresses, its towers reflected in the waters of the River Conwy. Afterwards, venture into the wild heart of Snowdonia National Park — a landscape of mountains, lakes, and ancient forests. The highest peak in Wales, Snowdon, dominates the horizon, and the views are simply breathtaking.
